4 Seasons of a Coach's Wife

In a coach's wife's life there are 4 seasons...

1) Football
2) Basketball
3) Baseball
4) SUMMER

I have so enjoyed spending time with the mister this summer.  We spent an amazing weekend with our good friends Mr. & Mrs. Coach Bender at Coach's Outreach (all coaching couples should attend a summer marriage conference... you won't regret it!), a beach vacation with Wes' family in Navarre, Florida, zoo trips, play dates, and best of all... NAPS.  I think naps are what I will miss the very most when school starts. But Summer is winding down... football 2-a-days have started for many of us... and it's back to missing husbands and daddies.

Our goals for this season, as a coaching couple, are...

1) Keep a strong relationship with God and full of prayer during difficult times.
2)  Take time to spend with one another... no matter how busy life gets... eat meals together.
3)  Be supportive and not so... well... "nagging"... there, I said it.  I can be the Queen Bee of nagging.

What are some of your goals as a coaching couple this season?  What will you miss most about the summer?  If you haven't set any goals with your husband yet, I would strongly encourage it.  After all... If Mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy (the English teacher in me died a little bit from typing that-- y'all do realize that means if Mama isn't happy, somebody is happy...right? Think about it).

  1. Love it, Em! We're not a coaching family, but we lead cRaZy busy lives and this serves as a great reminder for me and my household too! I'll be praying for the Chapmans this year!

  3. You are so right, we do live in those four seasons (although ours are now volleyball, basketball, track, summer). Yesterday was the first time that Josh was gone more than 12 hours and it already stinks so much. In fact, right now he's been gone since before I woke up and I know that at this moment he is still at school just starting a volleyball meeting.

Going to the Coaches Outreach retreat last summer made a HUGE difference in our year, along with the fact that we found Tom Bean which we love. It is just so wonderful to be goofy, and fun, and to talk about the really important conversations that get overlooked when we get stressed and sleep deprived.

Our continued goals from last year...
1- No more keeping track of things we've done for each other like a check list!
2- Stay off of devices in the evenings and be in the moment
3- Keep each other accountable for what we should and should not be doing- even if I has to happen at 1 am when he's finally getting home!

This year we are adding to that for this year...
1- Model for our children, and his players, what it looks like to put God first in our lives and in our marriage
2- No pushing each others buttons on purpose...not that we would ever do that!
3-Talk honestly about what is going on in our lives even if we are afraid it might be a stressful subject.

I am so sad to see the summer go:( but I am excited to see how God will work through Josh at Tom Bean this year!

  4. I LOVE the Bender goals, Monica! I especially love staying off devices (that will be exceptionally difficult for Coach Chapman) and the model for children and players about putting God first. I will say that my husband is much more comfortable doing that than I am. I guess I always try to be "politically correct". This year, however, I have been giving my cheer squad the option of praying before games and performances. I think it helps put things in perspective for them, and for myself, too. Way to keep a positive outlook on the summer coming to an end. We will pray for the Benders this year with the many changes! Coach's Outreach has already made an incredible change in my attitude.

  5. Great post, Em! And, yes, I have always thought the "If Momma Ain't Happy" verbiage never made much sense... lol!
